A half helmet is the smallest DOT approved motorcycle helmet available. They are also known as beanie helmets, shorty helmets, brain buckets, etc. A half helmet will cover your brain and should you be in a motorcycle crash it will help you come out of it much better than either no helmet or a non-DOT helmet such as a novelty helmet.
